Three people who had been unaccounted for after a house fire in Deer Lake First Nation have been confirmed dead.
The community's chief and council issued an update late Thursday night, confirming that the fire that broke out Sunday evening claimed three lives.
The statement said that there were several community members injured, and one was sent to Thunder Bay with severe injuries.
The remains of the three people were flown out of the community on Wednesday afternoon for official identification and further investigation.
"The community is extremely grateful to the neighbouring communities, friends and family for their concern and continued support during this difficult time," the statement reads.
The cause of the fire has not been officially determined, the update added, with provincial and local authorities in the community to investigate.
