ATIKOKAN — A resident of Atikokan faces charges after her vehicle left the road Tuesday evening.
Ontario Provincial Police said they received a 911 call from a concerned citizen reporting that an impaired driver had hit the ditch in the Steep Rock Road area of town.
Responding officers determined alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision, said police, then officers administered a test which the driver failed.
She was then taken to the OPP detachment for additional testing, which revealed her blood alcohol concentration was above the maximum allowed under the Criminal Code.
A 29-year-old woman was charged with impaired driving and with driving while having over the legal limit of alcohol in her system.
In addition, she lost her driving privileges for three months, and saw her vehicle impounded at her expense for seven days.
The charges have not been tested in court, but she is scheduled to appear in court in late May.
