Aggravated assault leads to one arrest

NAPS lays charges in Fort Severn following an aggravated assault.

FORT SEVERN — Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) is reporting that police arrested one individual following an aggravated assault in the community of Fort Severn.

On the evening of Sept. 7, officers at Fort Severn First Nation attended a call for service where they located an injured victim with multiple stab wounds.

The victim was transported to Thunder Bay for treatment of their injuries.

At this time, the extent of the injuries is unknown, but NAPS believes them to be serious.

During their investigation, officers identified a male suspect and arrested the individual without incident on the afternoon of Sept. 9.

As a result, a 31-year-old from Fort Severn First Nation was charged with aggravated assault.

The accused appeared for a bail hearing on Sept. 9 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to NAPS.
