Forest fire smoke will likely affect air quality and reduce visibility for northwestern portions of the region.

Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement on Tuesday for areas including Kenora, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and the Far North.

Air quality is expected to improve Tuesday night, Environment Canada said, adding that smoke levels can fluctuate over short distances and vary from hour to hour.

People are cautioned to stop or reduce outdoor activity levels if breathing becomes uncomfortable and to take action to reduce exposure to wildfire smoke.

The smoke is from fires burning in the western part of the country.
