Smoke from western forest fires is having in impact on air quality in Northwestern Ontario.

Air Canada issued special air quality statements Monday for a portion of the region, including Kenora, Dryden, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Ignace.

Fires burning in northern Alberta, northern Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories are causing smoke to drift and head east.

Conditions are expected to improve Monday night and into Tuesday for most areas.

The Northwestern Health Unit is advising people to reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities or to instead move indoors.
