RAINY RIVER — A resident of the U.S. is in OPP custody in Fort Frances after an incident at the international border crossing between Rainy River and Baudette, Minnesota.

Police were notified early Sunday morning by the Canada Border Services Agency that an SUV had crossed into Canada without stopping for inspection.

A short time later, OPP located the vehicle on Highway 11 and made two attempts to get the driver to stop.

When that failed, officers deployed a spike belt on the roadway to bring the vehicle to a stop at a residence in the Township of Emo.

A 26-year-old man from Badger, Minnesota was taken into custody and subsequently charged under the Criminal Code with flight from a peace officer.

OPP closed a section of Highway 11 for about an hour until the situation was resolved.
