DRYDEN — An area resident has received a stiff fine and a five-year ban from hunting as the result of an investigation by the Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers.

The Dinorwic man pleaded guilty to illegally hunting multiple moose and a deer in the span of three years.

Court was told the investigation began in October 2023 when the MNR received a tip that a bull moose had been shot and discarded.

Officers were able to confirm this.

They also found that a cow moose had been shot and killed without a licence three days earlier, and that a deer had been shot from the running boards of a pickup truck the day prior to that.

The officers determined, as well, that the same individual had hunted a bull moose in 2021 and 2022 without a licence.

Richard Kanceruk was convicted of illegally hunting moose and deer, shooting from a vehicle and failing to invalidate a deer tag.

He received a total of $6,500 in fines, was prohibited from hunting for five years, and was placed on probation for 18 months.
