KEJICK BAY – The public safety alert issued earlier today by the Lac Seul Police Service (LSPS) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been lifted. Residents are no longer required to shelter in place, according to OPP Northwest Region.

Although the details of the case are still being investigated by both police services, the OPP stated that on July 18 police received a report of an individual at large in the community with a possible firearm.

Therefore, in the interest of public safety, the OPP issued a Public Safety Alert advising residents of Kejick Bay, Lac Seul First Nation, to shelter in a place.

An extensive search involving LSPS officers, Sioux Lookout OPP officers, OPP Emergency Response Team members, and Canine units, police apprehend the individual without any harm to the public or law enforcement.

The OPP thanks all members of the public for their cooperation during this investigation.

“The safety and security of our community is our top priority, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that all residents feel safe and protected. We are also grateful for the hard work and dedication of our officers who put their lives on the line every day to keep our community safe,” OPP Northwest Region said in a release.

This story has been updated to reflect current information provided by the OPP Northwest Region.
