ATIKOKAN – A 26-year-old Atikokan man faces charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle in the Northwestern Ontario community.

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Monday, said they received a report at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 regarding a stolen pick-up truck, which was taken from the Lone Pine area.

Police said the vehicle was quickly located in the Industrial Park area and a lone suspect was in the vehicle.

He was immediately taken into custody, where officers determined he was impaired, prohibited criminally and suspended from driving, as well as being on probation.

The accused had a bail hearing and was remanded into custody to face a Monday court appearance.

The accused was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, operation while prohibited, failure to comply with a demand, failing to comply with probation, fail to comply with a peace bond, assault police and driving while under suspension.

It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects in criminal cases in which it is unlikely we will follow it through to its conclusion in court.
