ATIKOKAN — Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 23 year-old from Atikokan with impaired driving after officers stopped a vehicle in the early morning hours Monday.
According to a media release issued Monday, OPP said officers from the Atikokan detachment stopped a vehicle around 3 a.m. after allegedly seeing a stop sign violation.
As part of the traffic stop, police said they administered alcohol screening which the driver failed. He was arrested at the scene, police said, and taken to the police station for further testing.
The 23 year-old faces one criminal charge each of impaired operation of a vehicle and driving with a blood alcohol concentration of over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. He also faces charges under the Highway Traffic Act related to being a novice driver and for an insurance violation.
Police suspended the driver’s licence for 90 days, the OPP said, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused was released from custody with a court date of March 27.
