ATIKOKAN — A 67-year-old truck driver has collected $100,000 in lottery winnings.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission on Tuesday announced that Atikokan's John Herber won the prize on a Feb. 15 Lotto 6/49 ticket by matching six of the last seven Encore numbers.
“At first, I thought I won $10,000. When I realized it was $100,000, I was shocked and thought the ticket checker must be wrong,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “I was so nervous and excited I was shaking.”
Herber said he is excited to start planning on how to use his winnings.
“Some will go towards retirement and some for home improvements,” he said.
The winning ticket was bought at Marg's Northern Convenience on O'Brien Street in Atikokan.
