Bombers force Game 7 with crucial road win

Sunday's 4-1 win over Red Lake sets up a winner-take-all Game on Tuesday night in Sioux Lookout.

RED LAKE – The Sioux Lookout Bombers weren’t ready to give up their title defence just yet.

The Bombers scored three unanswered goals in the third period on Sunday afternoon to pull out a 4-1 win over the Red Lake Miners in Game 6 of their best-of-seven Superior International Junior Hockey League quarterfinal, forcing a winner-take-all Game 7 on Tuesday night.

Alex Lucas snapped a 1-1 tie, scoring on Nick Peters at 10:03 of the final stanza. Seventy seconds later Ty Lone made it a 3-1 hockey game and Sage Roberts iced it at 17:28, scoring his fifth of the series to put the win in the books.

Sioux Lookout’s Josh Smith and Red Lake’s Nathan Dann traded first-period goals.

Peters made 38 saves in the contest, while his Bombers counterpart, Matthew Ofukany, made 36 saves to earn the win.

Game time Tuesday night is 7 p.m.

The Thunder Bay North Stars and Fort Frances Lakers will also play a deciding Game 7 on Tuesday, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT at Fort William Gardens.
