Brendan Hyatt will run for the Conservatives in Thunder Bay-Rainy River

The LaVallee Township educator and politician has been chosen by the party to run in the upcoming federal election.

LAVALLEE TOWNSHIP — The Conservative Party of Canada has its candidate to run in Thunder Bay-Rainy River.

Brendan Hyatt has been nominated by the party. Hyatt is a former director of education and superintendent with the Northwest Catholic District School Board and is a council member and deputy reeve of LaVallee Township.

According to his biography on the Conservatives' Thunder Bay-Rainy River riding association page, Hyatt was born in the Rainy River district and is an avid hunter.

He graduated from Lakehead University in 1991 with a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of education. He subsequently completed a master’s in education as well.

After retiring, he ran for local office in LaVallee Township and was elected to council. He serves as the community’s deputy reeve, the biography said.

“Deeply connected to the values of family, education and healthcare, Brendan is passionate about his role as the Conservative candidate for Thunder Bay-Rainy River,” the writeup said, also highlighting his “wealth of experience and dedication to his community.”

Hyatt’s personal website lists transforming healthcare, speeding up the creation of affordable housing, adopting sustainable agricultural practices, focusing on resource development “in harmony with the environment,” and reforming the justice system as priorities.

Hyatt is running against Liberal incumbent Marcus Powlowski and New Democrat challenger Yuk-Sem Won.
