City of Kenora announces evacuation boundary decreases

The City of Kenora updated information regarding the evacuation order and indicated that for some areas evacuation boundaries have decreased.
Roads still closed

KENORA—A recent notice posted by the City of Kenora informed the community that the remedial work at 500 metres north of Bells Point Road has been completed and the area has reopened.

The City of Kenora Communications Department stated that, “City engineering and roads staff have evaluated the evacuated area and made an assessment of the roads. As a result of this inspection by our professional engineers, the evacuation area has been reduced allowing more residents to return to their properties. There were 314 properties within the previous two evacuation areas, that are within city boundaries. A total of 223 properties now have access which includes the opened evacuated areas from last week.”

They want to remind residents however that some roads still remain closed, due to unstable areas that require remediation prior to reopening. These roads include:

  • School Road at East Melick Road,
  • Beggs Road at Gautier Road,
  • Coker Road at Kelly Road, and
  • Essex Road at Hooterville Trail

The public is reminded that the evacuation order remains in effect for the areas that are remaining closed. Crews will continue to monitor the previously completed remedial work and water levels. The community is asked to travel according to road conditions as maintenance work required continues on all roads in the area. Road crews will begin remedial work in the next week and continue until this work is complete.
