Ontario Provincial Police say charges have been laid against two men after a drug trafficking investigation.

FORT FRANCES — Ontario Provincial Police say two people have been charged with cocaine trafficking and other offences after a series of warranted searches in Fort Frances and Rainy River.

In a media release issued on Friday, police said the searches happened two days prior and involved numerous OPP units as well as Treaty Three police. In total, police said seven people were initially arrested, but as of Friday, charges were laid against only two men — a 29 year-old from Fort Frances and a 41 year-old from Scarborough.

The searches uncovered 130 grams of cocaine, approximately $2,000 in cash as well as what police called fraudulent identification, financial cards and other offence-related property.

Each of the accused has been charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds obtained by crime and possessing an identity document. The 41 year-old also faces a charge of possession of a credit card.

Both men appeared in bail court, police said, where they were released with a next appearance date of April 28 in court in Fort Frances.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
