Comedian Darrin Rose makes Ear Falls stop on regional tour

The Campfire Comedy series tour through Northwestern Ontario also included shows in Kenora, Ignace, Thunder Bay, Wawa, Kapuskasing, Nipigon, Hornepayne and White River.

Last week brought plenty of laughs to the Ear Falls Legion.

A comedy show held on April 12 was part of comedian Mark Menei’s Campfire Comedy series throughout Northwestern Ontario. Around 120 people attended.

“It was a really great turnout, people came out from Red Lake, Mackenzie Island and even the mayor of Perrault Falls was there,” said Ear Falls Legion president Matthew Barrow.

Campfire Comedy reached out via email about having a show in Ear Falls and luckily the legion members were having a regular meeting that same night. The show was put to vote and the members unanimously voted yes to booking the show.

The tour started off in Kenora, before trekking to Ear Falls next day. There will also be shows in Ignace, Thunder Bay, Wawa, Kapuskasing, Nipigon, Hornepayne and White River.

One of Canada’s most popular comedians, Darrin Rose headlined at the show, with producer Menei opening.

“Darrin took the time to drive around Ear Falls and incorporate some of the local sights into the act,” Barrow said. “It made it really relatable for the audience.”

Rose is an award-winning writer and actor. He is best known for his eight-season role as Bill on the CBC show Mr. D., he hosted the show Match Game and played Doc on the show Letterkenny.

Menei was named Best Comedian in the Walleye magazine and has been featured on CBC, CTV and the Thunder Bay Comedy Festival. He is also the owner of Campfire Comedy and has been producing live comedic tours throughout the region.

“Everyone who came out made a point to tell me they appreciated the show, usually you have to go to Winnipeg to see live comedy,” said Barrow.

Campfire Comedy is already planning for another tour later this summer and the Legion is hoping to have them back again in the future.

“It was a dynamic duo of comedy,” said Legion member Joanne Kay. “It was intoxicatingly funny.”
