FORT FRANCES – La Verendrye General Hospital is experiencing its first COVID-19 outbreak since February.
An outbreak was declared last week by the Northwestern Health Unit and the hospital’s operator, Riverside Health Care.
As of Monday, it remains isolated to a few patients on the first floor, Riverside spokesperson Kathryn Pierroz said in an email.
Measures being taken to prevent spread include enhanced masking, reduced visitation and limited staff movement.
At this time, visiting is restricted to two people per patient and visitors are required to wear level 3 medical masks. Masks are available on site.
Riverside Health Care asks potential visitors to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses by staying at home if they feel sick.
“Outbreak status is determined by public health, and decisions related to that status such as masking are jointly made between the health unit and Riverside’s outbreak management team,” said Pierroz.
The hospital’s outbreak management team includes senior clinical leadership, occupational health and safety representation and “other leadership team members,” she said.
