A 35-year-old from Kenora faces multiple charges after failing to stop for a traffic stop in Manitoba, and then crashing into a ditch on the Ontario side of the border.

Provincial police said officers were sent to the Manitoba border near Falcon Lake on the evening of Sept. 29 after the RCMP reported a vehicle failed to stop after an attempt to pull it over.

Police said they received information the vehicle was being driven erratically and beer cans were thrown out the window, and RCMP discontinued a pursuit out of public safety.

Responding OPP officers found a vehicle matching the description in a ditch along Highway 17 near Royal Lake, and received information from passing motorist that the driver assaulted a passenger and fled intot he bush.

Police contained the area and brought in the emergency response team and canine unit, leading to the suspect being found and arrested.

The accused is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and two counts of impaired driving, and is scheduled to appear in a Kenora court later this month.

A 90-day driver's licence suspension was issued.
