DRYDEN – After an update from the Dryden OPP detachment earlier this month, city councillors gave the provincial cops stellar reviews.

Dryden completed a transition from a municipal police service to Ontario Provincial Police on the morning of Feb. 24, 2022.

Mayor Jack Harrison likes what he sees so far.

“We’re very pleased with the work of the OPP,” he said the day after council took in a presentation led by Dryden OPP commander Insp. Adam Illman.

Coun. Michelle Price said the progress she has seen at the street level is “staggering.”

“I’m very happy with what the OPP has been doing,” she said.

Price said she has noticed a big improvement downtown, where her business has benefited from daily foot patrols.

“Since they’ve been doing a foot patrol downtown, shoplifting has dropped to almost none.

“There is still crime in Dryden, for sure, but there is also action by the police.”

The OPP’s update sounded good to Coun. Catherine Kiewning as well.

“From the report that we received on Tuesday night, it does sound like the projects the OPP are implementing in Dryden are being really well received from the community standpoint, which is really, really great to hear,” Kiewning said.
