DRYDEN – A snowmobiler in Dryden should have thought twice before hitting the trails after having a few drinks.

A 22-year-old man, not wearing a helmet, was observed at about 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 27 on a motorized snow vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. He then crashed into a snowbank on Casimir Avenue.

The man suffered no injuries, but upon further investigation, police determined the man was allegedly impaired by alcohol.

The accused was placed under arrest and taken back to Dryden OPP headquarters for further testing.

The man was subsequently charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, failing to wear a proper helmet and careless driving.

The accused was released from custody and ordered to return to court in Dryden on Jan. 27.

OPP remind snowmobilers they are subject to driver’s licence suspensions, fines and vehicle impoundments, with criminal records and increased insurance costs likely.
