Dryden reminds residents of the cemetery by-law

The City of Dryden Cemetery By-law provides guidelines for planting trees, flowers, and shrubs on graves.

DRYDEN – The city request that flower beds/planting must not exceed 18 inches in width and are placed at the base of monuments only. These flowerbeds may include a variety of annual flowers, perennials such as Phlox, Artemisia, and Candytuft, to name a few, or shrubs such as Spirea, Potentilla or Astilbe.

These types of flowers and shrubs must be low-growing varieties, which will remain within the confines of the gravesite. Planting low-growing plants will assist with the general maintenance and ensure the cemetery grounds stay neat and well-kept.

A list of the various types of flowers and shrubs permitted is available on the City of Dryden website at www.dryden.ca.

In addition, the construction of borders or enclosures, such as fences around graves, is not permitted; as well as, glass containers are forbidden and will be removed without notice.

The City of Dryden seeks the public’s cooperation by requesting that worn, broken and out-of-season decorations/artificial flowers be removed no later than May 8, 2022. After this time, the city will remove and dispose of them.

Please note that the City of Dryden shall not be responsible for loss of or damage to any portable articles left upon any lot or grave at the Dryden Cemetery.

The City of Dryden appreciates your cooperation and assistance in maintaining the Cemetery. If you have any questions regarding the Dryden Cemetery, don't hesitate to contact Lynn Arseneault, Records and Legislative Coordinator, at 807-223-1160.
