Frigid temperatures expected across Northwestern Ontario this weekend has prompted extreme cold warnings.
Environment Canada issued the warnings Saturday, with wind chill values near -40 expected through the night and into Sunday morning.
The warnings extend from the Manitoba border through Superior North, and from Hudson Bay areas down to as far south as Thunder Bay.
While the conditions are expected to become more moderate during the day on Sunday, some areas might get another blast of extreme cold Sunday night and into Monday morning.
Environment Canada cautions that frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin in extreme cold, and recommends checking in on older family members, friends and neighbours.
The extreme cold risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
