Fatal motor vehicle collision shut down Highway 17

Thunder Bay OPP is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision in Upsala Township.

UPSALA – At approximately 11 p.m. last night, OPP and Emergency Medical Services responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a commercial motor vehicle and a passenger van on Highway 17 west of Thunder Bay.

According to the OPP, after officers arrived on the scene, they found the driver of the van, a 60-year-old from Thunder Bay, deceased as a result of the collision.

Two passengers from the van were transported to hospital by EMS to be treated for their injuries.

The occupants of the commercial motor vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

The OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team and OPP Collision Re-Constructionists are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Highway 17 was closed for an extended period but has since been re-opened.
