Fire consumes the Hungry Pug in Kenora

Popular downtown restaurant the Hungry Pug was destroyed by fire.

KENORA - A major fire in downtown Kenora broke out after 2 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Hungry Pug on Matheson Street South.

The building beside the Hungry Pug was also set ablaze during the fire.  

Const. Jason Canfield says ”right now we don’t have anyone in custody for the fire and no one was hurt by the fire.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time; however, an investigation will commence.

Residents send their condolences to the owners on Facebook.

Women’s clothing store Island Girl sits on the other side of the Hungry Pug. There is no damage to their build.

In the comments, MPP for Kenora-Rainy River Greg Rickford wrote, “Sad news to be sure, glad to hear that no one was injured.”

The one-block section of Matheson Street just south of Second Street is closed to traffic as crews battle the blaze.
