THUNDER BAY — A long-time member of parliament from Thunder Bay has passed away.
Stan Dromisky died in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Sept. 8 at the age of 92.
He served as the MP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan for 11 years.
Representing the Liberal party, Dromisky was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993.
He was re-elected in 1997 and 2000, and retired from politics in 2004.
Thunder Bay Mayor Ken Boshcoff succeeded him as a Liberal MP that year.
Boshcoff credited Dromisky with being instrumental in his successful entry to federal politics, describing him as "a good coach" as well as "a significant community player."
He recalled his own victory celebration in 2004, when Dromisky advised him "If you really want to know about parliament, get on the judicial committees and the process committees. I did, and I'll tell you, in a minority government, those were like tooth-and-nail learning curves."
