FORT FRANCES — An OPP officer arrested a motorist for impaired driving on Friday.
After stopping the vehicle in the Scott Street area for disobeying a stop sign around 9 p.m., the officer allegedly detected that the driver had been drinking and demanded a roadside test.
The driver failed the test and was arrested at the scene, said police, in a news release.
As a result, the 43-year-old man from Fort Frances was charged criminally with one count of impaired operation by drug and alcohol, as well as one count of failure or refusal to comply with a demand.
The man was also charged with disobeying a sign, committing an unsafe turn and failing to notify a change of address.
The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the involved vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Police released the man and he is scheduled to appear at the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice in May.
The OPP said it remains committed to taking alcohol and drug-impaired drivers off the roads through enforcement and public education.
If residents suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, police added that it is important to call 911 to report it.
