Four new forest fires confirmed in Ontario's Northwest

SIOUX LOOKOUT – Four new forest fires were confirmed by Friday evening in Ontario’s Northwest. Two of the four are listed as not under control, including a 0.1-hectare fire, known as Red Lake 44, located 3.

SIOUX LOOKOUT – Four new forest fires were confirmed by Friday evening in Ontario’s Northwest.

Two of the four are listed as not under control, including a 0.1-hectare fire, known as Red Lake 44, located 3.5 kilometres north of Joyce Lake and 16.2 kilometres east of Keesic Bay.

Thunder Bay 15, a two-hectare fire, is also not under control. It’s located about three kilometres east of Quetico Provincial Park.

A 0.1-hectare fire, located in Frenchman’s Head, and another just south of the Deer Lake Airport are listed as under control.

There are currently 26 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Two are listed as not under control, two are under control and 22 are being observed. The fire hazard remains moderate to high across the region.
