RED LAKE — Four residents of the the Ear Falls/Red Lake area have received fines totalling $8500 after pleading guilty to illegal hunting practices.

The case dates back to October 2022 when a party was hunting along the English River, west of Ear Falls.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, two Ear Falls men were hunting for a bull moose when neither was licensed  to do so.

After one of them killed a bull, a third hunter unlawfully fixed his bull moose tag to the animal.

The man who shot the moose was fined $3000 and had his hunting privileges suspended for seven years, while his hunting  companion was fined $3,500 and lost his right to hunt for three years.

The MNR said both had been convicted previously for wildlife infractions.

The individual who unlawfully used his bull moose tag, a resident of Balmertown, was fined $1,000.

An Ear Falls man who assisted with the retrieval of the moose was also fined $1,000 for possessing a bull moose that had been killed unlawfully.
