Front Street in Fort France will soon reopen

Due to the dry weather during June, flood water has begun to recede.

FORT FRANCES - As the floodwater begins to recede around Front Street in Fort Frances, clean-up efforts are set to begin, starting July 8.

The Township is advising that the following areas will reopen to pedestrian and vehicular traffic:

  1. Front Street (Mosher Avenue to Minnie Avenue)
  2. Front Street walking path
  3. Front Street bike path
  4. Front Street Fitness Equipment
  5. Sorting Gap Marina

However, to ensure the safety of the public while clean-up efforts continue to take place, the following closures remain in place for pedestrians and vehicular traffic:

  1. Front Street (Williams Avenue to Minnie Avenue; Mosher Avenue to Armit Avenue)
  2. Front Street Playground
  3. Sorting Gap Gas Docks
  4. Lookout Tower
  5. The Hallet
  6. River Front Docks
  7. Point Park and Seven Oaks (closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic)

Although the Rainy Lake levels are still exceptionally high, the water is dropping and is expected to continue to drop throughout July and Aug. as long as the weather continues to remain dry.
