RAINY RIVER – TBnewswatch has learned the name of the man who was fatally injured at New Gold’s Rainy River mine on Wednesday.

A GoFundMe page setup on Thursday is raising money for the family of Jeffrey Woolsey.

“Jeff leaves behind his parents Vera and Orval, siblings Penny and Jay, children, Jaden, Mia and Joaquin, fiancée Christine Jensen and step-children Alex, Abby and Emmett, as well as countless friends,” the GoFundMe page says.

“Those that knew Jeff can attest to the fact that he was a great man that took passion in his work on the family farm and at the Rainy River gold mine.

“He enjoyed hunting, and trapping on the family property. But above all Jeff loved and was always proudest about his family.”

The GoFundMe page was launched with a goal of $5,000, which it quickly surpassed. At 1:55 p.m. on Friday it was at more than $28,000.

The Ministry of Labour said the individual was "struck by material."

Two investigators from the Ministry are on the scene to assess the cause of the accident.
