Temperatures are expected to be higher for Rainy River district areas this week, with minimal overnight cooling not likely to bring much relief.
Environment Canada issued a heat warning on Tuesday for areas including Fort Frances, Rainy River, Atikokan and Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, with daytime high temperatures expected to approach 30 C.
"A hot and humid airmass is expected to move into northwestern Ontario [Tuesday] for regions near the international border," the Environment Canada advisory stated. "Lingering showers may keep some areas cooler this afternoon. Humidex values could soar into the upper [30s], especially on Wednesday.
The warm weather is expected through Wednesday and possibly extending into Thursday.
People are urged to watch for the effects of heat illness, which can include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
