CONMEE -- Ontario Provincial Police say they are investigating a fatal collision on Highway 17.

In a release issued early Saturday morning, police say emergency services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at about 7:20 p.m. on Friday. The crash involved a commercial motor vehicle and a pick-up truck and occurred at Oikonen Road, just south of the Highway 102 junction at Sistonen's Corner.

The highway remains closed in both directions while the investigation continues. It's expected to continue for most of the night. The alternate route of Highway 102 to Highway 11/17 remains open.

In addition to OPP, members of Superior North EMS, Conmee Volunteer Fire Service and Oliver Paipoonge Volunteer Fire Service responded to the call.

Police said further details will be made public as they become available. Follow Ontario 511 for road closure updates.
