The Labour Day long weekend is expected to be a scorcher for most of the region.

Environment Canada issued heat warnings for a large part of Northwestern Ontario on Friday, with temperatures expected to approach or exceed 30 C beginning Saturday and continuing through Monday or Tuesday.

The advisory covers areas including Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, and Atikokan.

Humidex values in the mid-30s are expected through the long weekend.

The area is also expected to be affected by smoke from forest fires burning in western Canada on Saturday and Sunday.
