EAR FALLS — A hunter from southwestern Ontario has been fined $7,000 for illegal hunting in the Ear Falls area last year.

Conservation officers began investigating in October 2022 after a moose was killed on Shanty Road near Ear Falls, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry detailed in a news release issued last week.

The ministry said the hunter fired several shots while he and the moose were both on the road.

The case was heard in a Red Lake court earlier this fall, where a guilty plea was entered to careless use of a firearm while hunting.

In addition to the fine, a two-year hunting licence suspension was issued and the hunter is required to retake the hunter education course.
