NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO – With an extreme heat warning in effect, Hydro One is advising the public they are preparing for the potential of severe thunderstorms that may be accompanied by high winds this weekend.

Environment Canada is calling for high volumes of winds up to 38 km/h in the Rainy River District, which could potentially cause a risk of tornadoes.

Severe thunderstorms are forecasted for Kenora, Dryden, and Fort Frances Saturday morning into the afternoon.

“Hydro One crews are geared up and ready to respond to any outages that may occur as quickly and safely as possible. We are also mobilizing crews from other areas to support restoration,” the power company said in a release.

Hydro One says if outages occur, expect an estimated time of restoration will be determined by caseload and the amount damage that was sustained.

Outages can be reported by texting 92887 (WATTS), through the company’s outage map and app, or by calling 1-800-434-1235.
