THUNDER BAY — An Ignace man is now a millionaire after becoming the latest member of the Thunder Bay 50/50 winners' club.
The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation announced Friday that Norman Barratt claimed the September grand prize, amounting to more than $1.1 million.
“I can’t believe it, I thought this was a joke,” Barratt said.
“I’m going to use the money to pay off some debts and work on my home renovations. We’re redoing the roof right now and still have a deck to build too.”
The foundation's 50/50 draw has provided over $27 million in prizes to winners from across Ontario and purchased millions of dollars of equipment for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
“It was a great feeling telling Norman that he was $1,136,985 dollars richer today,” said foundation president and CEO Glenn Craig.
“The Thunder Bay 50/50 has really made a huge difference in patient care here at the Hospital. We are dreaming bigger and doing more to fund much-needed new and replacement equipment sooner than we ever could before.”
The October draw is officially open and will feature bonus tickets where half of the proceeds go directly to improve regional breast cancer care.
The jackpot draw will happen on Oct. 27.
