KENORA – As of Friday, Kenora's Keewatin Library and Keewatin Senior Centre are closed.

The closure was announced on the City of Kenora's Facebook page.

"The Keewatin Library building located on Ottawa Street has been deemed unsafe for occupancy due to a structural issue with the roof," the post said.

"This building holds programming for library services as well as our Keewatin Senior Centre which will be impacted by this closure."

The city will temporarily relocate the senior centre programming to the Keewatin Arena while there are no ice rentals in the facility. A plan for a longer-term option for senior programming is underway.

"Library services will be available through the Kenora Branch and digital service is available 24/7," the post said.

City engineers will work to address the structural issues with the building and next steps will be considered over the next few months.

"In the coming days a plan will be made to bring service back to Keewatin in some capacity. We recognize this is disruptive to those citizens who use the facility and apologize for the inconvenience this will cause."
