NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO — Provincial police were active in the community and with calls for service in Northwestern Ontario.

Officers with the OPP detachments in Dryden, Kenora, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake responded to a total of 255 occurrences between March 10 and 16.

However, not all occurrences were calls for service.

According to a spokesperson for OPP Northwest Region, the Dryden detachment is particularly proactive in doing foot patrols, walking through businesses and schools, and attending community events.

Those proactive initiatives represent nearly a third, 72 of the 255, of reported calls in the region last week.

Sioux Lookout reported 57 calls for service regarding the Liquor License Control Act; this was the second-highest category for officers in the noted communities.

The OPP is reminding the public about their online reporting system as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for a minor incident.

Citizen Self Reporting (CSR) was rolled out across the province in 2014, and it is an efficient system as a means of reporting certain minor incidents and crimes.
