RED LAKE -- The Laughing Logger entertainment group came to Red Lake over the weekend to provide residents with a Saturday of fun.
The show was brought in by the 105 Tourism board of Red Lake.
“We are happy to be able to bring in this show and appreciate everybody coming out,” says chairman of the 105 Tourism Board, Duane Riddell.
This comedic event featured lumberjack stunts such as axe throwing, log climbing, speed carving and finished with a log roll competition. The Laughing Loggers put on three back-to-back shows throughout the day, despite the windy weather. Approximately 100 people attended the first show, 150 came to the second show and 200 came to the third for a total of around 450 people attending overall. Riddell says there were even people that came out from the local tourist camps.
After each show, a ‘lumberjack run’ was put on for the kids of the audience to try. The run had three stages, unhooking a rigging wire from a large log, rehooking it to another log, and then hammering in a nail. Kids competed with their friends to be the fastest to complete the run, with help from some crew.
The show was hosted by Ben Lefler a man from New Zealand. He and his wife have been producing the lumberjack show worldwide for more than 17 years. The stunts were preformed by two trained lumberjacks.
The 105 Tourism Board has many projects in the community that they are working on, including getting Red Lake and its attractions put onto the Ontario snowmobile maps. They are also welcoming ‘Fish TV’ from CBC In a couple of weeks to shoot three segments on Red Lake fishing.
“We’re building a better quality of life for the people of the community,” says Riddell.
