KENORA — Ontario Provincial Police have laid impaired driving charges against a 43-year-old man after he allegedly hit a vehicle waiting at a stop sign in Kenora on Monday.

Officers were called shortly before 8:30 a.m. about a pickup truck “driving erratically” eastbound on Highway 17, the OPP said in a media release issued Tuesday.

“The complainant reported that the suspect vehicle was all over the road and nearly drove into oncoming traffic,” the release said. About 15 minutes later, police said they found the truck, after it had collided with another vehicle stopped at a stop sign on Mellick Avenue.

Police told Newswatch that there were no injuries, just minor damage to both vehicles.

The accused has been charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood. Police said he also received a 90-day licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He has a court date in Kenora on April 17.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
