Manslaughter charge laid in Pikangikum First Nation

Charge dates back to the death of a 24-year-old woman last April.

PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION – A manslaughter charge has been laid in Pikangikum First Nation in connection with a nearly one-year-old death.

Ontario Provincial Police say on April 3, 2024 they attended a residence in the community following the report of a sudden death.

When they arrived, they found a 24-year-old female deceased inside the residence.

A lengthy and thorough investigation ensued, leading to charges announced on Tuesday.

Adam Peters, 37, of Pikgangikum First Nation has been charged with manslaughter and trafficking in Schedule 1 substances, other drugs.

The accused was remanded into custody and scheduled to appear in court in Kenora on Feb. 26.

The investigation was conducted by the Red Lake OPP crime unit under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch in conjunction with the chief coroner and the Ontario forensic pathology service.

A publication ban has been issued and, as a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information.
