Many Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place across the Northwest

Here's a listing with the details of Remembrance Day ceremonies for the public in many communities across the Northwest.

Remembrance Day is being commemorated at ceremonies in many communities across Northwestern Ontario.

In Atikokan, the Remembrance Day service starts at 10:30 am in Legion Hall at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #145.

Dryden’s Legion Branch #63 is holding a ceremony that will take place at Legion Hall starting with an assembly at 10 a.m. and the service starting at 10:30 a.m., there will be a march to the Cenotaph, which will include a laying of wreaths, then a return to the Legion where a complimentary light lunch will follow. Mylift will provide rides to those requiring them.

In Fort Frances, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #29 is holding a ceremony at the cenotaph at 11 a.m., which will also be streamed online via their facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/events/630048562146887?ref=newsfeed

Ignace’s ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Cenotaph with a luncheon afterwards that’s hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #168.

Kenora Legion Branch #12 will have a ceremony in the auditorium starting at 10:30a.m. The Laying of wreaths will follow the service as will a parade to the Cenotaph, which will take place weather permitting. The clubroom will be open.

Across the Rainy River region, the Royal Canadian Legion General Lipsett Branch #99 in Emo is arranging ceremonies across the area. It will start with a church service at the Emo Legion at 10 a.m. And then services at the Emo Cenotaph at 11a.m., Devlin Cenotaph at noon, Barwick Cenotaph at 1:30p.m., Stratton Cenotaph at 2p.m. before concluding at the Rainy River First Nation, Manitou Cenotaph at 2:45 p.m. A lunch will be served at the Emo Legion at 12:30p.m. And a ticketed Remembrance Day dinner takes place at 5p.m.

In Red Lake, a ceremony will take place in the main hall of the Red Lake Royal Canadian Legion Branch #102. Assembly starts at 10:30 a.m. with a service beginning at 10:45a.m.

And in Sioux Lookout, attendees of ceremonies in the community will be greeted with an art installation for Remembrance Day consisting of panels adorned with knitted poppies created by about 20 crafters from the Northern Knitters group. The Edwin Switzer Memorial Branch #78 will give people two options to commemorate Remembrance Day. One ceremony will take place at 10:50a.m. in the upper hall while another ceremony will happen simultaneously at the same time the Cenotaph at Town Beach, as there is no parade this year. The Legion Ladies Auxiliary will serve a free lunch after the ceremonies in the clubroom. The Legion asks those who are attending the ceremony in the hall arrive early to ensure they are seated by the ceremony time, doors open at 10:20a.m.

Another ceremony organized by the Hudson Legion will take place in Hudson at 10:45 a.m. at the cenotaph on Main St., with a complementary lunch to follow.
