McLeod Park reopens along Kenora's harbourfront

The second phase of the McLeod Park redevelopment project has come to an end as Kenora celebrates the park’s grand reopening.

KENORA — A harbour front park celebrated its grand reopening after being redeveloped.

City officials on Friday marked the reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at McLeod Park, following the second phase of its redevelopment project.

McLeod Park is a popular local recreation and tourist destination for the City of Kenora where Husky the Muskie resides.

Phase one of the project began last year with the rehabilitation of the iconic Kenora mascot of Husky the Muskie.

Kenora economic development officer Megan Dokuchie said “prior to this project, there weren’t a ton of amenities in McLeod Park.

Dokuchie states that the project allows for more activity at the park with new picnic areas, renovations to the washroom facility, and a new playground.

The total budget cost of the McLeod Park redevelopment project was $940,000, which was funded through the Government of Canada Tourism Relief Fund, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and the Municipal Accommodation Tax.

“We’re really excited about being able to use that visitor tax to create a new amenity for our residents and visitors to our community,” said Dokuchie.
