ATIKOKAN – While out on patrol at the intersection of O'Brien and Niven streets on January 8, officers saw a vehicle violate the Highway Traffic Act at around 2 am.

Officers initiated a traffic stop, according to an OPP release, and during the investigation officers came to believe that the driver was impaired by drugs.

The driver was taken into custody for further testing.

As a result, a 31-year-old from Atikokan was arrested and charged with impaired driving, failure to provide insurance, having cannabis readily available, obstructed plates, driving without proper headlights, and failure to surrender a permit for a motor vehicle.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before court on February 19.
