Murder charge laid in Wabaseemoong First Nation

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) have laid a murder charge related to a homicide in Wabaseemoong First Nation.

WABASEEMOONG FIRST NATION — According to OPP Northwest Region, on the afternoon of May 2, Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) and emergency responders attended an incident at a residence where one individual was pronounced deceased.  

During the investigation, a 34-year-old of Wabaseemoong First Nation was arrested and charged with second degree murder.

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the court at a later date.

OPP stated the investigation by the T3PS, OPP Forensic Identification Services, Regional Support Team, Major Crime Investigative Team, and Provincial Liaison Team is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Police believe there is no threat to public safety at this time, but are reminding the public to expect to see a large police presences in the area as the investigation continues.
