IGNACE — A variety of nuclear industry experts will be present for a two-day trade show style event coming to Ignace later this month.
The event will be held on Sept. 15-16, with 24 exhibitors, at the Ignace Recreation Centre.
Exhibitors include the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, Ontario Power Generation, and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization.
“I am excited that Ignace is hosting the Nuclear Exploration Event. Having experts from various areas of the nuclear industry in attendance will give visitors the chance to ask questions and to gain a better understanding of the deep geological repository project,” interim mayor Kim Baigrie said in a statement.
The township will also have consultants present as part of the work for the willingness committee, and residents an have a conversation with the representative and give their thoughts and opinion on the proposed deep geological project.
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization will also have its mobile learn more centre on-site.
“Sharing information about nuclear waste management is an essential part of the work we do at the NWMO. I look forward to returning to Ignace to take part in the Northwest Nuclear Exploration Event and to talking to people about this important project,” said Lise Morton, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's vice president of site selection.
Activities begin on Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. and run through 8 a.m., while the Sept. 16 session goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
