ATIKOKAN — Jim Turner and his wife had a big decision to make – accept a brand-new motorhome or take its value in cash.

Turner had just been informed he was an early-bird prize winner in the SickKids Car Calendar lottery run by the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

He could choose between a 2024 Jayco Alante RV and $225,000.

"My wife had wanted a motorhome forever, and that's where we were leaning. But we sat down, and we talked about all the pros and cons, and at the end of the day, we took the cash," Turner told TBnewswatch.

"It took time to process and everything, but we knew within a week what we were doing."

The draw was conducted back in June, but SickKids only made their good fortune public last Friday with a post on social media.

The former residents of Geraldton are regular supporters of various lotteries in the health care field, including the Split the Pot lottery which Atikokan General Hospital participates in, and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation's 50/50 draw.

"A lot of my family work in healthcare. . . And it's something we all depend on at some point in our life," Turner said.

The couple plans to use their winnings to invest in their retirement, but will also share some with their children.
