FORT FRANCES – A 19-year-old from the Town of Emo is facing hefty charges including theft of a motor vehicle, impaired operation, and dangerous driving following an early-morning incident on Friday, Dec. 8.
Rainy River OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle stolen from a residence on Williams Avenue in the town of Fort Frances at 6:45 a.m.. After locating the stolen vehicle, police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver fled, damaging two police cruisers.
A short time later, officers located and arrested the driver at an address on Agamiing Drive.
On top of the theft, impaired, and dangerous driving charges, the 19-year-old also faces charges that include fleeing from police, failure to comply with demand, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
The accused was scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
The OPP said it has investigated property crime incidents that may be linked to the suspect. Police are urging residents in the east end of Fort Frances with video surveillance from the morning of Dec. 8 to contact the Rainy River District Detachment at (807) 274-3322.
