IGNACE -- A 17-year-old of Milwaukee, WI. has died after falling over board into the water.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, officers were notified of an incident on Tuesday, June 21 around 3:45 p.m. on Kukukus Lake.

The report said two individuals had been fishing when one individual fell overboard into the water.

The other individual jumped into the water in attempt to rescue the individual who fell into the water.

Rescue attempts were not successful, and police were contacted.

Officers along with the OPP's Emergency Response Team and Canine attended Kukukus Lake and conducted a search for the individual.

Police say, members located the 17-year-old on June 22.

The individual was pronounced deceased.

Police are reminding residents that with capsized vessels and falling overboard contributing factors in boating deaths every year, a significant number of lives stand to be saved if boaters and paddlers wore lifejackets/PFDs.

Remember that the only lifejacket/PFD that can save you is the one you are wearing.
