One person hospitalized after alleged stabbing

It's alleged that a conversation between two youths ended in physical violence.

KEEWAYWIN FIRST NATION — A youth has been charged with aggravated assault after a possible stabbing incident. 

Officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to a call for service in the early hours of Oct. 28 in the isolated first nation.

Officers had received reports of an assault outside a residential address on Band Office Road. 

Police learned a 17-year-old male and a 19-year-old male were engaged in a conversation, at which point it is alleged the 17-year-old assaulted the male victim.

The accused then fled the area on foot. 

Police say the 19-year-old sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing and was transported to Thunder Bay for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

Details on the extent of those injuries were not provided, but they are not believed to be life-threatening. 

The accused was located and arrested later that morning without incident and has been remanded into custody with a future court appearance date.

The name of the accused is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
